And so, after only 18 months here in NorCal, this run comes to an abrupt halt!

I *literally* updated the site this week to reflect the new gig. It’s almost as if I knew this was on the horizon. Unfortunately, my time at 98 Rock is over. I’m officially a “free agent.”

Meanwhile, if you’re interested in the partial history…

Most recently…After 9 successful years in Mornings, and due to the retirement of my on-air partner, after spending the last year of my time in Phoenix doing Middays, I made the decision to return to the West Coast to assume Mornings on Sacramento’s 98 Rock! A station I previously worked at in the early 2000s. Although I loved my time in Phoenix, I missed Mornings too much to pass on this opportunity. It was Northern California’s Rock Station & the *only* station in the region who plays New Rock, in addition to the bands you know & love! I enjoyed my time there immensely.

I also had a nice 4-year run in 2010 as Program Director for the 43-year Heritage Rock Station: 93.3 KDKB (now Alt-AZ) in Phoenix Arizona! (R.I.P.). All in all, I spent almost 15 years in Phoenix, and loved every minute of it.

Prior to this, I was the top rated Afternoon radio personality for over 5 years in Kansas City, MO. Before that…Afternoons in Boston, Afternoons in Sacramento, Mornings in Columbus, OH, Afternoons in New Orleans, Afternoons in Memphis…and so on…and so on. I’ve also done appearances on various Talk, and Sports-Talk stations, and been an NFL analyst. All of which, can be heard in the Radio Archive.

This is my little spot in the infinite world of the internet. I invite you to spend all of your free time here, instead of that porn site you’re really looking at on the other tab. As a matter of fact…I offer my page as cover for the tab you’re hiding . Take some time, and roam around the site. It’s constantly being updated, and new stuff is added (almost) daily.

Christmas Eve (SaveRadio 12/24)

For whatever reason, this is the time of the year, when too many of my radio friends, lose their jobs. I have always been a massive fan of Radio. It got me through many tough times as a kid. It matters to more people than the businessmen may know. And so, a few years ago, while I was actually sitting in a studio, working on Christmas Eve…the *only* *live* Radio Personality on the air in the city that night, I composed this.

Each Holiday Season since, I post it somewhere. My small gift, to those that love what we do.

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the station
Not a creature was stirring, ’twas all automation.
The phone lines they rang, but no one was there,
The dopes that cleaned house, just didn’t care.

The listeners were calling, with songs in their heads,
With pre-rehearsed audio, turned up instead.
My mom in her ‘kitchen, her foot she would tap,
How sad she would be to put up with this crap.

When we were all young, we heard music that mattered,
The DJ announced it, with relevant chatter.
Away to the speaker, I flew like a flash
Cranked up the Zeppelin, The Who, and The Clash.

The tunes were the best, we loved all the shows
The DJ in mid-day, their name we’d all know.
When, what to my pondering ears should I hear?
The irrelevant voice, of a guy, not from here.

With so little to tell me, ‘bout the town that I live,
I knew there and then, not a care could I give.
More vapid, and useless, his statements the same
And he screwed up announcing, from where we all came

“North KWINsee! BURgundy,” The idiot, blubbers
And all I can think of is, “find me another!”
‘Round the dial do I search, how the mighty they fall!
They chase away! Chase away! Chased away all!”

‘Cos DJs of yore, were stewards of song,
And they knew that their listeners, were singing along
But now those at the top-the costs they eschew,
With the ouster of people, the revenues grew.

And then, someone thought, “shouldn’t radio be live?”
The future demands we adapt to survive.
And I knew in my head, and was hoping again,
That the stations would resolve, to entertain us as friends.

See radio’s unlike anything else, this I feel in my heart,
And to fix it, demands we go back to the start.
With DJs, and music, and stories to share,
And doing it right, by people who care.

These barons on Wall St. don’t know how it’s done!
Connection with people’s how this game is won!
We know that good music, it touches the heart,
Respect for the product is only one part.

To start we could try hearing, the voices who say,
That the songs that they want, are those we should play.
Because what works in Boston, may not in LA,
Take those national playlists, and throw them away!

We’ve been lazy, and cheap, and forgot why we’re here,
To host every party, and toast them with cheer!
It’s not all that hard to get people to care
But, in order to serve them, you’ve gotta be there.

So let’s hope that they get right to this work,
And fill all the stations, with more than a clerk.
Start playing fresh music, and let the reigns go,
And bring back the DJ their audience know!

It’s not yet too late, will take quite some hustle,
And the first social network can re-flex its muscle.
So I say to you now…Do radio right
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”

KSLX: Phoenix – David Lee Roth Drops A Bit Of A Bombshell!

We had Van Halen frontman, David Lee Roth on the show today (9/12/19).

During the conversation (as Dave is wont to do), he proclaimed, “I’m the face of Van Halen from this point on…most likely.”

It was what he said immediately *after* that is probably going to garner a ton of attention. There’s been a *lot* of speculation as to why Van Halen didn’t reunite & tour with Michael Anthony as had been originally planned for this year. Turns out it wasn’t why you think…

I believe we may have inadvertently uncovered confirmation of a rumor that had been bubbling for a while now: Edward Van Halen is *very* sick. Dave was fairly coy overall, but he’s not stupid. In his own way, I think he’s preparing us.

Shock Me!

So yeah…I’m on vacation & playing with audio. Many moons ago, I sang in bands. You can find that stuff elsewhere on the site. Today. I was messing around with Ace Frehley’s “Shock Me.” I’ve always been a huge KISS fan, and Ace in particular. I found a DVD from about a decade ago, where he jammed out some of his stuff instrumentally. Through the magic of digital workstations, I’m able to goof around with it.

That said, the original was buried in effects. So, I did the same & played with just about every plugin available. This is what happened.
