KSLX: Phoenix – David Lee Roth Drops A Bit Of A Bombshell!

Category: Phoenix - KSLX - Classic Rock 100-7

We had Van Halen frontman, David Lee Roth on the show today (9/12/19).

During the conversation (as Dave is wont to do), he proclaimed, “I’m the face of Van Halen from this point on…most likely.”

It was what he said immediately *after* that is probably going to garner a ton of attention. There’s been a *lot* of speculation as to why Van Halen didn’t reunite & tour with Michael Anthony as had been originally planned for this year. Turns out it wasn’t why you think…

I believe we may have inadvertently uncovered confirmation of a rumor that had been bubbling for a while now: Edward Van Halen is *very* sick. Dave was fairly coy overall, but he’s not stupid. In his own way, I think he’s preparing us.

KSLX: Phoenix – Randy’s Behind The Door

One of my all-time favorite songs…done by one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet! Randy always delivers when he comes by the show. He’s an even better person than he is a musician…and he’s an incredible musician.

I thank him for allowing us to present this

Enjoy!

KSLX: Phoenix – Please Welcome…”Ze-Bros!”

We’ve had the occasional musical guest on the show. Often times, we’ll ask if they can play a tune, or two.

This time, we had Randy Jackson of Zebra (who is a return guest), do the hang. He does a ton of things outside Zebra. Including solo show, and tribute shows. Most famously, he does a Led Zeppelin tribute thing, with a symphony orchestra in the host city.

This time, he was in town to do a Pink Floyd tribute. As Mark & I can “play” (“You keep using that word…I do not think it means, what you think it means), we asked if he’d like to drop a little “Comfortably Numb” on the audience? We had Mark on 6-string acoustic, I played acoustic bass, and Randy, who is one of the world’s *best* 12-string players, did his thing on guitar & vocals.

Now…here’s something we didn’t consider when we were asked about what we wanted when they built our studios; We never thought we’d need chairs that were conducive to playing guitar. Mark realized this a long time ago. He’s learned to position his in a way that he can use it. I…did not. And so, you will hear a couple of “clammed” bass notes as I try to save my guitar from hitting the floor.  Thankfully, I recovered fast enough that the song wasn’t completely screwed. Randy was very kind in his ignorance of the moment. Lesson learned? *Get a strap.*

Enjoy…
