Category: Boston - WRKO - Boston's Talk Station

This comes from when I was the afternoon guy at WAAF in Boston. I was friends with Scott Allen Miller, who did mornings at Boston’s talk station WRKO. When their co-host went on vacation, they would have substitute co-hosts sit in each day. I was asked if I wanted to hang. So, I absolutely jumped at the chance. Some say the future of radio is going to be talk-based. So, I can say I’ve done Talk Radio now too. I think I did well. We had never worked together. I think they were taken back a bit. But, I felt good. Maybe I’m the next Rush Limbaugh? He signed a 400 mil. deal. I’d work for 1 percent of that. But, don’t tell anyone! 🙂

Part 1 – Breast Feeding…yes I know. Seems like they used me to do a little titillating (no pun intended) programming. Surprisingly, we kept it (relatively) adult.

Part 2 – Breast Feeding…like I needed to type anything else to get you to click

Part 3 – Helmet Laws…I gotta give them credit. They knew which topics to go with while I was in-studio. I DON’T think they expected me to be an advocate.

Part 4 – Helmet Laws cont.

Part 5 – Helmet Laws in 3D!

Part 6 – Helmet Laws; Enough already!!!

Part 7 – Radio. This is something a lot of people talk to me about. It’s one of those things I am pretty outspoken on. Here we talk a bit about Radio, and specifically Satellite and the potential for it to damage terrestrial.

Part 8 – Wrappin’ it up. When it was all said and done. I think we did well. Again…there was no rehearsal. I was tossed in with very little idea of if it would even work. Hope you enjoyed listening. Maybe I’ll do this someday.

WBCN Boston: I Got Fired By WAAF The Day Before…and ‘BCN Stepped Up!

Category: Boston - WBCN - The Rock Of Boston!

I’ve been doing radio a long time. 28 years actually. In those 2 years, I’ve been fired 4 times.  I was fired by WAAF in Boston in 2005, and showed up the next day on their immediate competitor, WBCN. WBCN is gone now. But it was a legendary Rock station. And they opened their doors to me when I needed a gig. However, when you go to a competitor, you HAVE to be careful what you say. Your former employers are usually listening. And it’s important to never burn a bridge. You’ll never hear me truly badmouth any employer on the air. Even when they put me and my wife on the street. It’s radio. You know how it goes when you get in.

Part II – It was very strange day in my career. But it felt pretty good.

Part III – The silliness continues

Part IV – Here’s how it went down. Took less than 2 minutes.

Part V – They asked me to stay the whole day. Where did I have to be right?

Part VI – The night guy joins us. They really tried hard to get me to rip on my former employer. But, it’s just not good form.

Part VII – This file is called “careful what you wish for.” My bet is that it refers to listening to a 9-part audio file on a Radio guy’s website.

Part VIII – The word began to spread amongst Boston Rock listeners, and we started getting some cool phone calls. Having a real good time at this point.

Part IX – It’s over. This was one of my favorite shows. I made two new friends and felt great about being wanted. That’s what all radio guys want. The symbolic “hug from afar.”

KRXQ Sacramento: The Final Break (featuring Anthrax)

Category: Sacramento - KRXQ - 98 Rock!

There are some jobs that meant more to me than others. I made lifelong friends the first time @ KRXQ. Worked with extremely talented people. Some of whom I stay in touch with to this day. I left to take my then-wife home to Boston to be near her family. It was a decision I have regretted since making it. This was my last shift there and every time I listen, I remember how sad I was. Let’s hug it out bitches!

KRXQ Sacramento: @ Ozzfest w/ Marilyn Manson

Category: Sacramento - KRXQ - 98 Rock!

Manson ended up headlining this show due to illness on Ozzy’s part. I had heard that Ozzy actually hit it hard the night before in Seattle, with a few other un-named members of the tour. During his performance, he was very sick, and molested (fisted actually. I think she sued him for it) one of his backup dancers. Come on down! Bring the kids! It’s a family show!

KRXQ Sacramento: Lars Ulrich in San Francisco

Category: Sacramento - KRXQ - 98 Rock!

Here’s one of (how many?) my talks with Lars. I always seem to have an awkward moment with him. We’ve had many good times over the years. I am always humbled when he comes up and says hello. Lars knows me. That’s pretty cool. During this chat, we had a listener with us, who was supposed to interview him. Lars made her feel comfortable. Until my awkward moment. Classy.
