Why would a cop call me after getting pulled over? What I edited out of this…was the fact that the officer who got pulled over, asked the officer who pulled him over, to pick a square in a dead pool I was doing on the air at the time called “The James Earl Ray Of Hope.” Which basically was; James Earl Ray, had contracted cirrhosis of the liver, and I was asking people to pick a square on a grid…blah blah blah. If he dies…you win a prize. Yep…”The James Earl Ray Of Hope”…in Memphis. What class?

I don’t care how much I need to “express my individuality…I’d personally NEVER drive a spike thru my junk. Yeah. People do that. More than you think. And, not always the one’s you’d imagine. So…go ahead listen. You know you want to. We gave this girl like 5 names, so nobody who knew her, would know she was there. My personal favorite; “Sherri”….which happened to be my General Manager’s name. Fun Fact: Sherri, the General Manager, reportedly once dated Elvis. I did the math. She would’ve been *well* under-age when that happened. Welcome to Memphis. 🙂

Beautiful porn star in the studio. What you don’t hear on this is the phone call my wife makes during a commercial break. My wife was working for a guy, who Victoria worked for prior to getting into the Adult Entertainment business. She calls and asks; “Is her real name Sheila?” Victoria responds; “who wants to know?” “Pat.” “OH MY GOD How is Pat?” Yeah…instant soft-on.

As I mentioned in another post, WMFS was a *very* edgy radio station. We regularly pushed the boundaries of good taste. In fact, it was pretty much the rule – Take it to the edge. Every time. With one caveat; it must be funny. Sometimes we got there. This was one of those songs that almost wrote itself. My caring tribute to John Denver, who died tragically in a plane crash one weekend in 1997. The minute I heard, I wrote this, and played it the following Monday afternoon.

Memphis, laughed.

A small sample of the afternoon show from the old 92.9 WMFS. The station is long gone. It was a good time. This is what’s called a scoped aircheck. We send these to potential future employers. If they had any idea of how over-the-line we really were, I’d have never found another job. We did everything. Piercings, on-air fights, threatening the local Yeshiva (true story!). It was out of control. Despite being in the buckle of the Bible belt, Memphis is one of the most decadent cities in America. Thankfully, some audio was lost over the years. We don’t need people hearing all of it.
