5 Minutes Of Nights

Category: Memphis - WMFS - Solid Rock 92-9 MFS!

Another sample of the show at ‘MFS. This was at night, and therefore a little more “raw.” We did some sick stuff after the doors closed. There was nudity, which works well on the radio. We actually had a blow-up sheep, hanging from the ceiling in the air studio. There are extended segments of some of this stuff elsewhere in this section. I had a great time doing nights in Memphis. Enjoy!

The Stupid Kid Showed Up

Category: Memphis - WMFS - Solid Rock 92-9 MFS!

“For Marilyn Manson Tickets Part ‘Duh’!” All you need to know; “Well, that’s cuz you can’t set anybody on fire, in the studio.” That’s right! We literally set a kid on fire. However, we did have limits. We wouldn’t allow him to carve Marilyn Manson’s name into his skull with a broken beer bottle. He was game. We decided…that was too far. Just the idea of this today, would get crushed by legal. We got away with almost immolating a listener. Think about that for a second. WTF?

For Marilyn Manson Tickets

Category: Memphis - WMFS - Solid Rock 92-9 MFS!

Marilyn Manson had his 15 minutes. At one time, people really wanted to see him. Which begged the question; How badly? The idea of listeners, doing outrageous things for concert tickets, isn’t new. We used to be able to get them to do the *worst* things. All in the name of “the show.” And, they were more than willing to play along. These days, it’s a lot tougher to get people to humiliate themselves. Although, looking at reality TV, perhaps not. Again…this was ALL pre-Janet Jackson/9-11 and we got away with…well…Go ahead and listen.

Corey Glover Still Rules

Category: Memphis - WMFS - Solid Rock 92-9 MFS!

You may, or may not recall the name. Corey sings for Living Colour. I have been a *huge* fan of his band, since Day 1. I think they’re one of Rock’s most overlooked bands. They blended jazz, funk, blues, and metal perfectly. A perfect Rock band, if ever there were one. I also love Corey’s solo record. He’s a soulful, amazing vocalist. One of the best ever. And yet, very humble. This was one of my last shows in Memphis. I was fired a few days later. I told Corey I knew it was coming and we made it clear we knew. A GREAT on-air live musical performance. I literally used two in-studio mics. Proof that great singers can do it without trickery. My first live mixing job. I’m pretty proud of it.
