5 Minutes Of Afternoons

Category: Memphis - WMFS - Solid Rock 92-9 MFS!

A small sample of the afternoon show from the old 92.9 WMFS. The station is long gone. It was a good time. This is what’s called a scoped aircheck. We send these to potential future employers. If they had any idea of how over-the-line we really were, I’d have never found another job. We did everything. Piercings, on-air fights, threatening the local Yeshiva (true story!). It was out of control. Despite being in the buckle of the Bible belt, Memphis is one of the most decadent cities in America. Thankfully, some audio was lost over the years. We don’t need people hearing all of it.

5 Minutes Of Nights

Category: Memphis - WMFS - Solid Rock 92-9 MFS!

Another sample of the show at ‘MFS. This was at night, and therefore a little more “raw.” We did some sick stuff after the doors closed. There was nudity, which works well on the radio. We actually had a blow-up sheep, hanging from the ceiling in the air studio. There are extended segments of some of this stuff elsewhere in this section. I had a great time doing nights in Memphis. Enjoy!

The Cult – “Born Into This”…World Premiere Broadcast!

Category: Kansas City - KQRC - 98-9 The Rock!World Premiere Broadcast: The Cult - Born Into This

thecultIn 2007, I was asked by the industry magazine Friday Morning Quarterback, to host the World Premiere for the new CD from the Cult. The CD is called “Born Into This.” This one-hour premiere ran on Rock & Alternative stations all over America. It was an amazing experience for me to be able to sit down with Ian Astbury, Billy Duffy & Chris Wyse to discuss the recording process and what makes the band tick. I’ve been fortunate to have been able to interview the band on several occasions. Considering they’re one of my favorite bands of all-time…I always remind myself how cool my job is. I have purposely uploaded this in mono and at a low bit rate. Lots of people spent a lot of time putting this together for the broadcast. It sounded amazing when it happened. But, here…it is presented for archival and your listening enjoyment. Thanks to the band, their manager Tom Vitorino, Mike Parish & everyone at FMQB for flying me out to Hollywood and allowing us to do this at the legendary Capitol Records building. Hope you enjoy!

This was the station that I grew up listening to. I’m proud to say I got to work for them. Two hours after being fired by WAAF, WBCN gave me a job! Born in 1968…one of the first Rock stations in America. The station is gone now. It is one of the tragedies of the radio business. I have friends that I grew up with that hate the fact that I got to work there and they didn’t. (Hi John!)

WBCN Boston: Thanksgiving 2005!

Category: Boston - WBCN - The Rock Of Boston!

Working Thanksgiving Day is always fun. I love the progress of the day. People get sick & tired of their families. They start knocking a few back. And the “radio guy” is their best friend. And recently, the “Black Friday” shopping, is starting to begin *on* Thanksgiving. Which adds yet more opportunity for fun & frivolity. Here’s Thanksgiving on WBCN w/Neanderpaul.
