Back in 2007…before most people had even heard of this band, they showed how smart they are. They had just played their set at Family Values, and decided they were going to do a “spontaneous” autograph signing. And knowing we were broadcasting from the event, just set their table up in front of our booth. And you know I wasn’t about to let that go unmentioned. So, we got Ivan, and Darrell to come on the air, and introduce them to KC! Last I the “band we’ll never play,” (KQRC Program Director said it) are co-headliners at the station festival. Go figure! Another reason we use the 7-second delay!

KQRC: Kansas City – Alterbridge In Studio
March 31, 2010 Category: Kansas City - KQRC - 98-9 The Rock!
Funny…After the years I’ve spent making fun of Creed, one of my favorite “new” bands is Alterbridge. I really like their music. And I’m not alone in that. It supports my theory that people don’t really hate Creed. They hate douchebags. And Scott Stapp, as we all know, is considered a douchebag.
On this day, the band stopped by before having to play an outdoor show during a horrible weather day. We hung for a while, and they played a couple of songs live in-studio. It was an exercise in futility really. For all of their alleged expertise, whomever designed the (really nice) air studio, didn’t think of what would happen if a band came in, and didn’t run their stuff through a mixer. The way the room was arranged, the mic pickup patterns phased each other out. So, it was extremely difficult to mix live on-air. We eventually got it right toward the end of “Before Tomorrow Comes.” So…here ya go. Enjoy.

Here I’m joined by one of my favorite guests. From one of my favorite bands. As I’ve said many times before on the air…I LOVE The Cult. I think they’re incredibly underrated. So, any time I can get a chance to get them on the air, I take it. Billy called in before a show they were doing toward the end of the “Born Into This” tour. Which, I hosted the world premiere of. The show is on the site. Feel free to check it out. Here’s Billy! Enjoy.

I did time as a “mobile DJ” for a while. I hosted Karaoke Nights & did weddings and dances and parties, and dealt with drunken family members who couldn’t sing, and got pulled over for “drunk driving” when my little Dodge Aries K station wagon was overloaded with heavy equipment and swerved over a double yellow line. No, I wasn’t drinking. But we did get towed over 100 miles home and pretty much cost me money to do that gig.
This is the greatest termination letter EVER!
The guy tells me he doesn’t think I have what it takes to be a mobile DJ…which is AWESOME. And goes on to tell me how much he likes me.
I consider this to be one of the highlights of my professional career!

There was a time, when I was sending demos out every day for months. I hit up this station several times. In fact, I recently applied for their Morning Show position after I got capped in Kansas City.
