KDKB: Phoenix – David Ellefson & DMC In One Show!

Category: Phoenix - KDKB - 93-3 KDKB Rocks Arizona!

This was a VERY busy show. I had the opportunity to talk to Phoenix’ own David Ellefson from Megadeth, who had just rejoined the band and was fresh off the “Big 4” shows in Europe. I also got a call from my friend Jesse Dupree from Jackyl, telling me that DMC was in town and he could hook up an in-studio if I was interested. Was I? Hell yeah!! So, just as Ellefson was finishing up, in walks DMC. I couldn’t get them on the air together, but the summit that took place in the halls, was one of those moments where I wish we’d had a camera for video. It was a really cool day. Thankfully, I got all the audio and you can hear the kind of fun we had. This was also during the time where I was bribing listeners to listen to me with a huge denomination of cash-money!! Yeah, it’s a long file. But, I think one of my best shows. Have fun!

KDKB: Phoenix – Ozzy Admits He Doesn’t Like “Scream”

Category: Phoenix - KDKB - 93-3 KDKB Rocks Arizona!

This was a bit surprising. I’ve spoken to Ozzy probably a dozen times over the years. Every once in a while, he says something very telling. We now know that most people don’t really dig the “Scream” CD as much as they did those he’s done with Zakk Wylde. During this call, we come to find…even Ozzy doesn’t like it that much.

Motorhead were my first interview in 1986. I was an 18-year old kid, standing outside their bus on a Sunday afternoon. It was after that interview in which their guitarist at the time (Wurzel) confided in me that he would soon leave the band, and asked me not to speak of it (just like “Almost Famous” but with no Kate Hudson to fall in love with), that i decided that radio was to be what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

26 years later, I got (longtime-drummer) Mikkey’s phone number in Canada from a friend and dropped him a call. The following is our little chat:

KDKB: Phoenix – Gary Cherone (Extreme/Van Halen) Calls In

Category: Phoenix - KDKB - 93-3 KDKB Rocks Arizona!

Gary & I go back to 1986. I was just starting out doing College Radio at Framingham State in Massachusetts. And Gary had just made a lineup change to his fairly successful band “The Dream.” Turns out he & drummer Paul Geary sold the name and they became “Ex-Dream” a.k.a. EXTREME. Gary & Nuno used to sit in on my radio show and play me demos of their new stuff.

Fast forward 26 years, and Gary is still sitting in (this time via telephone) to promote his music. I’m only too happy to oblige.

Enjoy…
