KDKB: Phoenix – Metallica’s Robert Trujillo!

Category: Phoenix - KDKB - 93-3 KDKB Rocks Arizona!

Always great to sit with Roberto. He’s a class act from the word “go.” During this particular chat, we talk about how Metallica spent (and we now know, lost) $18,000,000 on “Through The Never.” Plus, only the best Bass players can make one note, sound fantastic. Robert is one of those guys. And, we prove it. And…I called him on “Lulu.” He handled it like a pro.

KDKB: Phoenix – Stephen Pearcy from RATT

Category: Phoenix - KDKB - 93-3 KDKB Rocks Arizona!

I recently rediscovered RATT. One of those bands that I’ve had all their CDs on the shelf, but rarely listen. Not for any specific reason. I just sort of overlook them. I think that’s a microcosm of the band right there. They were really big. Right up there with Motley, and Poison, and Def Leppard. And for some reason, they get the shaft. Pearcy wrote a book. It’s a good read, and it explains a lot of why they sort of fell apart. It was cool of him to hang, and be so open about it.

KDKB: Phoenix – Brother Jesse James Dupree

Category: Phoenix - KDKB - 93-3 KDKB Rocks Arizona!

Always love talking to Jesse. One of my true friends. He’s one of the few guys, you can just say “Hi Jesse!” and let him go! He’d probably kick ass as a radio-guy. Although, he wouldn’t be able to swig the brown liquor like he does. And, I’m sure the pay cut would sting a bit as well. So…I guess my gig is safe. For now.

KDKB: Phoenix – Ian Astbury II

Category: Phoenix - KDKB - 93-3 KDKB Rocks Arizona!

If you’ve ever listened to my show over the years, you know how much I love the Cult. I’ve had a good relationship with the band over the years. Which, I’m told, is rare. Guitarist Billy Duffy is one of the most laid back dudes you’ll ever meet. Just goes with the flow. On the other hand, Ian, is very intelligent, and intense. He suffers no fools. I was stoked to see them on their recent “Electric 13” tour.  The thing that bums me out is…The band’s UK record label, owns their back catalog. And, when the anniversary of “Electric” was announced, they packaged the album, with the *original* pressing when it was known as “Peace.” I *LOVE* the “Peace” record. It’s a fantastic record. But, the band isn’t getting paid anything for the sales it’s now achieving.  So…I have a better understanding of why Ian is so intense.

KDKB: Phoenix – Geezer Butler Apparently Parties In The Afternoon

Category: Phoenix - KDKB - 93-3 KDKB Rocks Arizona!

This was a weird one. It took me a while to get him on the phone. It was like a cocktail party, or something. I’ve been lucky enough to have met Geezer a couple of times. He is the most polite, gracious, English gentleman. I’m always impressed with how he handles the monotony of doing radio interviews. It doesn’t hurt, that Sabbath released a *crushing* record. They still deliver. And, I’m thankful that Geezer would take time to talk.
